US Tax - US Citizens Living Abroad (VO)

U.S. citizens and resident aliens of the U.S. are taxed on their worldwide income. This seminar will help with determining what income can be excluded from U.S. taxation, determining what income is eligible for foreign tax credits, and identifying reporting and filing requirements for U.S. citizens abroad.

OBJECTIVE:
This seminar provides a general understanding of U.S. taxation of U.S. citizens and resident aliens abroad, exposure for failure to file U.S. tax and information returns, options for delinquent filers, and recent changes to U.S. income taxes. The seminar material will include useful references including sample treaty disclosure statements. Detailed case studies will be used to illustrate concepts.

  • IRC Sec. 965 and Global Intangible Low-Taxed Income
  • Passive Foreign Investment Companies
  • Foreign branches
  • U.S. Voluntary Disclosure Program – Streamlined Filing Procedures

PREREQUISITES:
Participants should have a general understanding of the interrelationship of U.S. tax with Canadian tax. US Personal Tax – Fundamentals recommended.  Canadian tax principles are not the focus of the seminar.
